Through The Garden Gate : June

Roses galore throughout the garden!

Pyracantha blossom, fucsia and cranesbill.

The Albertine is just coming into full bloom over the kitchen door.

June has to be the best month in the garden , certainly in this part of the world. Roses are prolific and everything is at its vigorous best. This 'Silver Wedding' floribunda rose was given to us eleven years ago and seems to be doing very well this year.

Looking out from the bedroom window you can get an overview of how colourful the garden is this month. In the centre of the garden is the holly tree absolutely laden with a repeat flowering climbing white rose.

I only know this plant as a 'smoke bush'. It's getting somewhat unwieldy and will need a prune very soon.

In the middle garden the Sambuca Nigra Black Beauty, is at its peek. It is a type of elder so the berries when they come can be made into jam or wine. A new project for me this autumn! Alongside on the right is the very lush magnolia in full leaf. Below is a variegated fuchsia.

The veggie plot is doing well. A few tomatoes are starting to form. We have eaten lots of spinach but its beginning to bolt. Any suggestions for elongating its life?The strawberries are beginning to ripen as are the loganberries.

At the bottom of the garden the fox gloves are still blooming. They link in well with the elder and the white blossomed pyracantha 

 We've planted up busy lizzies in pots at the bottom garden . They always do well in the shade and add a little colour.

By the gate onto the meadow a hydrangea is just coming into flower. This plant seems to have done very well this year.

Up at the top the apple tree has had no blossom at all sadly this year. Last year we had about a dozen apples. Any advice would be appreciated.
